On the misty early evening of Earth Day, I was on a creative mission to capture a serene beach scene at Lido West Beach for a home renovation project. The weather was a less-than-ideal combination of grey foggy clouds and limited visibility, but I looked around waiting for a moment of magic that would gift me with the perfect composition. As I waited for any sign of movement aside from the motion of the waves, a friendly family appeared out of the fog, accompanied by their two gorgeous pups. What started as a chance encounter turned into an impromptu photo shoot that beautifully embodied the essence of Earth Day.
The misty backdrop added an ethereal touch to the photos and resulted in the exact inspiration I needed for my project. Since I started photographing the beach, I’ve adopted an unofficial rule that anyone who stumbles upon me and my camera receives a complimentary photo or two. These lovely humans and canines were the lucky winners that day, and I was beyond impressed with those dogs’ expertise in modeling.
After about 30 minutes of stillness in the sky, 3 gulls eventually flew over the ocean while waves crashed over the jetty. The sea was angry that day my friends, but my mission was now complete. This is the final photo that was printed and displayed on a bedroom wall of the freshly renovated home of my dear friend Angela Skudin, featured on George to the Rescue. <3 in Loving Memory of Casey Skudin.
